Family for the win

Drawing for Great-gramma
With very little lead time (translation: minutes before getting in the car), Milan drew a quick picture for Jim and me to deliver to my mother — his great-grandmother. We received a call late Monday morning that we might want to reconsider when we would return to Cincinnati — our plan had been to visit this weekend, but, once again, it’s not really about our plan.

Daughter Jeanne (named after my mother) packed up her three children, picked us up, and drove us several hours to the Philadelphia airport where we amazingly made a direct flight to CVG. Jim did apologize to those still waiting at the gate to board (10 minutes after the plan SHOULD have left) explaining that we had prayed for a delay that would allow us to make it through baggage check, security, shuttling to another concourse and then, of course, racing to the furthest gate possible — all of this needing to happen in under 45 minutes. Have you been to an international airport lately?? This DID all happen quicker than seemed possible. In fact, the first airline person we spoke to flatly announced that we would NOT make the flight…and to get in the line and wait our turn. Wish I had had time to find her and let her know we had made it!!

Lessons being learned along the way:

This summer is teaching me over and over again that it’s not about me nor my plan. It’s always about Him and His plan. Thankful when He sees fit to use us for His glory.

Family is amazing. Parents, children, grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who are as close as blood relatives. Oh, how we lean on each other. God designed us this way.

Most appreciative for my husband who is walking this walk by my side. Always standing on the Rock and holding me close.

Oh, and so thankful for Pandora radio: Mom and Dad loved the big band sound and those melodies are a backdrop for many of our conversations these days. And who can sit still when Glen Miller kicks in??!! Mom does grin when she sees her children bouncing to the beat!

Making memories today to enhance the memories of bygone days.

I wholeheartedly agree with you about a benevolent God who watches over every move we make, sometimes altering our plans to keep us safe in ways our human minds cannot comprehend – at least during this phase in our lives! I’m so glad you made it!

I am so glad you can be here to make the memories, surrounded by family and friends. Isn’t it wonderful that we live in a time when Pandora can be there to lighten the moment. Music always helps! Stay strong.
