Sunday’s Scripture: Praying for the Grandchildren

Sunday's Scriptures

(I want to know which Scriptures you personally are praying for your grandchildren. It will be my privilege to share these verses with everyone on subsequent Sundays. If you choose to briefly explain why you choose the verses you do, or have a short testimony concerning the verses, please share!)

One of my favorite grandmother friends sent me a short passage that she first prayed for her own children as they were growing up. She is now praying the same verses for several little ones as she navigates this wonderful grandparent life.

“…we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.  And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of the Lord.”  Colossians 1:9 – 10

And again I say amen!

I agree…such a great passage to be praying for our grandchildren. I’d love to hear what some of YOUR favorite verses are! (Here in comments or email or facebook!)

I think praying for our grandchildren is sometimes overlooked amid the fun of buying things and playing with them!
When my daughters were in school, I made a practice of saying the rosary for them as soon as they left for the day. I asked the Blessed Virgin to also select three other children – ones who struggled academically or socially and had no one to pray for them – to receive the benefit of my intercession. I intend to do the same for my grandchildren as soon as the two oldest begin Kindergarten next fall.

I love the thought of praying for three other children as you prayed for your own children. Great idea, Joyce. And who knows just how God honored those prayers for the others…well done!
