One-of-a-kind grandparent/grandchildren gifts

I just came across such a remarkable website today. I adore the creativity: Child’s Own.

The art of creating stuffed toys from children’s own pictures.

Really — click the link and see what I’m talking about. The rest of this post won’t make sense until you do! I’ll be here when you get back. Take your time. But DO come back!

Back already? Didn’t you love the variety of soft sculptures?

Grammy by MilanI took a picture of a line drawing that my grandson Milan drew of me when we were visiting this past winter. I have to admit that I was quite pleased that I had a smile! (You just never know how someone perceives you…and it really DOES matter how your grandchildren see you!) Thinking I look a little crazed in the eyes, but that is offset by the smile.

Child’s Own website has a link connecting other ‘softie’ creators…so if one person is limiting the numbers of new creations at this time (Child’s Own received way too many requests to even complete in a year at the last time the site was opened to new drawings), maybe another site can help.

What a totally unique gift from a grandparent to a grandchild. And even vice versa! As I’ve looked at the other sites, I’ve even seen how one artist has been commissioned to make dolls in the likeness of a recently-deceased grandfather, as drawn by the child, to help the grieving process. Wow.

As I look at my own drawing, I am wondering whether one of my super-talented friends might be willing to make ME a pillow with this likeness — machine-stitched or hand-embroidered! Take a look at Child’s Own and scroll down to a picture drawn by Connor — you can’t miss it: Connor is also IN it. That simple take to his drawing on a simple pillow is what I’m looking for.

Any takers? Happy to negotiate a price via email. Realizing that it’s priceless.

  1. What a fabulous idea. Another great way to connect the grandchildren and grandparents. I’d love to have a pillow created by my grandsons.

It’s wonderful to “meet” you, Marianna. Thank you for visiting Grandma’s Briefs. (And if you come back Monday, you can add your link to the GRAND Social link party for grandparent bloggers. It’s a fabulous way to meet other online grandparents.)

    Enjoy your weekend!
